Flypast Formation Practice

One thing we really wanted to have 'spot-on' was our Diamond Nine flypast for the parade on our 50th Anniversary. The above was one of the photos taken during our practice and was studied at length. The final product, needless to say, was impeccable, thanks in the main to Andy Maitland who organised and led the Nine.

On the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of No 208 Squadron

After a great deal of work, rehearsals and preparation, the great day was upon us.

Sir Geoffrey Bromet, in the accompanying photograph, arrived with his wife - former Air Commandant of the WRAF Dame Jean Conan-Doyle, together with Major Draper, of whom more later, and prepared themselves along with all our other guests for the dusk parade and flypast. Here, Sir Geoffrey is about to take the General Salute, and as the General Salute takes place our Diamond Nine hit the Parade, dead on time. We were the subject of a very critical audience, there being several of our Khormaksar Strike Wing contemporaries present, not to mention past Hunter aviators. None was able to criticise the flypast and the Parade apparently exceeded all expectations, so everyone was happy.
