The 'Tee-Bird'

The 'T-Bird' is a strange, ungainly, underpowered beast - an unmentionable two-seat bastardisation of our 'Queen of the Skies' FGA 9. One's first Squadron flight is invariably in one such as the above - the latter incidentally was borrowed from Khormaksar and immediately acquired a '3' after its TW Fleet marking, also the 208 insignia to add to 8-43 - the first 'Tripartite Hunter'?

The 'Queen-of-the-Skies'

The much-vaunted Hunter FGA 9, in this case the Boss's aircraft being flown by our saturnine Stu (Eastwood) when on detachment to Masirah for reconnaissance duties. The photo was taken by our friend 'Spy-Pilot' Ken Simpson from one of 1417 Flight's FR10s. There is nothing much in this area but sand.

The visit to the Station of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Sulman Al Khalifa KCMG

The Ruler HunterArticles Doug Marr Album Ruler's Dinner Menu.pdfcame to dine with the officers of RAF Muharraq; a rare event, and is pictured to the right being entertained by the Station Commander, Group Captain B G Frow. Hovering in the background is the ever-lurking Nehrooz, known to most as Number One. He has served the Mess for some years. The Ruler and assembled company were later subjected to a musical soiree! Squadron History in Local Paper

Shortly after his arrival on the Squadron, the poor unfortunate in the accompanying photograph was 'joed' to write the Squadron History in preparation for the 50th Anniversary on 25th October 1966. By dint of an absolutely enormous amount of work and research on the author's part a volume of extremely first-class prose - describing first-class history of course - was produced. 500 copied were optimistically ordered and strange to relat the Squadron, as a result of Dave Longden's high-powered salesmanship, has disposed of them all. It is reputed that some dubious aviation bookseller in London has a market for 200 copies. China, probably!
