Exercise TARTAN SPHINX 208(R) Sqn has completed Ex Tartan Sphinx, a week long det to RAF Lossiemouth to complete low level tactical training as part of the simulated attack phase of the trainee fast jet pilots’ tactical weapons course. RAF Valley News Article.
Centenary Formation Due to it’s rarity and historic significance the Bristol Fighter is flown infrequently, but it’s modern day counterparts from 208 Sqn were fortunate to span a century of aviation history and fly their Hawks with the 100 year old fighter.
Final Graduation. Tac Wpns Cse 84, the final cse to be trained by 208(R) Sqn, graduated in style on 1 Apr 16. Fittingly, for a Sqn that began life as an RNAS unit, the last graduates were both naval officers. The Reviewing Officer was RAdm Keith Blount OBE.
Centenary Celebration. To mark the centenary of the 1916 formation of Naval Eight Squadron, No 208 Squadron held a celebration on Friday 1 April 2016 at RAF Valley.
208 Squadron’s Final Flight. On Wed 13 Apr 16, 208 Sqn’s final Hawk T1 flight took place, paying homage to previous Hawk units and landmarks in Wales, the Nation 208 Sqn pilots have grown to love over the last 22 years. BBC News Website. Daily Post North Wales.
208 Squadron Plaque Unveiled AOC 22 (Trg) Gp, AVM Andrew Turner, unveiled a plaque to 208(R) Sqn during his visit to RAF Valley on 13 May 2016. A photo of the 100th Anniversary Hawks was also presented to ensure that the memory of the Squadron lives on.
