Thursday morning was spent in the usual air to ground manner and it was noticeable that the low warnings were getting much fewer - however this new found accuracy was not to be enjoyed for long as a depression moving along the Channel brought Tangmere its quota of snow for the winter. After snowball sorties in the early afternoon everyone settled down to listen to Tom Sheppard make the Hunter 6 fuel system sound twice as complicated as it really is; all aspects of its intricacies were covered, a general description given and any emergencies sorted out.

In the automobile world, Wee-Wee Tim is leading owner; Tom Sheppard is merely a Rolls possessor but Tim was heard to remark that he hoped the cold spell would soon be over as he didn't have anti-freeze in any of his three cars! These cars it must be recorded are a Riley Sprite, a Riley Doubtful and a probable Wolseley Hornet so perhaps the proud Rolls-man need not fear competition. Welsh blood being what it is young Evans has spent the week avoiding the law but on Thursday was forced to entertain a policeman and accept a summons for speeding, it is in Noel's favour that he concluded the interview by trying to sell the offending machine to the said policeman.

A steady stream of healthy little pilots for overseas medicals had been appearing at Station Sick Quarters and all were offered the little bottle, looked at, listened to and pronounced fit with the exception of Kel Thomas who has to report for a head examination at CME next week. TABT inoculations early on Friday morning made certain that when everyone dashed away for an early start to the weekend they were not to enjoy it, especially as the jabs were administered by a fiendish medico who had been 'entertained' by his late associates from Biggin Hill.

Monday 27th January - Friday 31st January

Whilst the remainder of Tangmere enjoyed the last 24 hours of a 72-hour weekend the bold Two Hundred and Eighth returned to work; work that was split with 'A' Flight enjoying a fine day and performing on the air to ground range at Manhood and 'B' Flight visiting the little lemon-chambered Empire of Survival at Thorney Island. On Tuesday in cold, windy and wet conditions Roy's boys lazed in the crewroom ostensibly studying Hunter 6 notes and the questionnaire whilst 'A' Flight went to Thorney.

The visits to the School of Land and Sea Survival were organised some time ago so that everyone could be lectured on Desert Survival and similar problems in the Middle East in preparation for the days to come. At this time in Thorney there ruled over his Empire a King who saith "for it is January and lo the sea is wet and cold and there cometh unto us two dozen suckers for lectures, we will cast them into the dark waters and show them the might of our Empire and they shall not learn of the desert."
