ARMAMENT

The RAF was already in transition looking towards to the fast jet front line. This is reflected here [13]. 208 and the 2 Hunter Squadrons at West Raynham were tasked with introducing the new SNEB high-velocity anti-armour rocket into operational service, carried in pods of 19 in

underwing pylons. We were also introducing low-level skip bombing at 50 feet and 420 knots: training for napalm, retarded bombs and cluster bomb delivery. The FGA9 Hunters were also fitted with an integral gunpack with 4 by 30mm Aden cannons, capable of knocking down mud forts and just about anything else in their way.

Here is the SNEB gunsight picture [16] – 10 degree dive – release around 900 yards (the whole pod took some time to deliver) – remain steady in the dive , wings level – pipper planted in the middle!

This shot [17] demonstrates the point – 2 pods on the way! And here some of the results [18].
