Although no longer operational, it has perhaps its most important role in its distinguished history, certainly for the RAF and the Navy, training all combat pilots of the future, on whatever squadron they may eventually end up.

Wing Commander Meadows ended the celebrations with the words of 208's first Squadron Commander, Sir Geoffrey Bromet:

"Whenever you, and those who follow after, see this Standard, you as they will recall

brave names and great occasions
and be resolved by your actions and example always to maintain the old tradition."

It was a particularly memorable evening for Flying Officer Michelle Atkinson, who undertook the role of 'Mr Vice', just two weeks after graduating from Initial Officer Training at Cranwell. In the finest traditions of the Squadron, she turned in an accomplished performance.
